My favorite movie this week
Into the Wild
A HUGE suprise. I fully expected to hate it. Let’s see:
- based on a book by Krakauer
- adapted and directed by Sean Penn
- about a spoiled brat who reads a little Thoreau, and, because he’s mad at his parents, decides to punish them by disappearing for a couple years.
That’s three strikes against it. Why I decided to watch it is anyone’s guess.
But I’m glad I did. I loved this movie. I expected a glorification of the main character. A hippy fest that shunned our modern capitalist society in favor of “a simpler time”. It did not do that. Instead it emphasized the importance of relationships and the pitfalls of youthful naivate. Highly recommended.
